Many men, when they see her, want to possess such a lovely creature. Unfortunately for her she has been seduced by one,but doesn't know his name, only that he is a gentleman by birth, and very handsome.Having been disowned by her father, because she is pregnant, she is rendered homeless. Our story begins with Esmeralda, tired and hungry, after walking for what seems miles, finding herself before massive iron gates, leading to a large and forbidding-looking house. Even so,to her eyes it is a most welcome sight, she being almost ready to drop from sheer exhaustion. How true love comes to Esmeralda after much suffering and heartbreak,is related in this 18thC tale, set on the coast of Cornwall.
